Germany-based Otto Bock Healthcare has announced that its prototype prosthetic arm which can be controlled by thought is ready to hit the market. The device has been in testing on Christian Kandlbauer -- who doesn't have any arms and has a conventional prosthetic on his right side -- for the past four years. He's the first person in Europe to have a thought-controlled prosthesis installed, but the research is complete and the finished product should soon be available to the public.

I'd love to see video of it in action, I'm just curious as to how fluid the movements are. Man I remember years ago, scientists saying if we could only work with nerves, the possibilites are endless. I guess that time as come, shhhhweeet. I also remember seeing something where a guy could move a mouse on a computer, by just looking at it or thinking about it (can't remember which one). I know the visual mouse moving this is real though, I believe thats how Stephen Hawking uses his 'voice computer'. Yeaaaars ago I also read about an artificial eye, where a guy was blind most of his life, they implanted what looked like a video camera over his eye, then the wires ran to his brain. He couldn't see as clearly as we can, but he could make out objects and such. Amazing.

That's some good stuff, just imagine ten or twenty years from now, what we'll be able to do. Mind controlled robot soldiers? Buh bye war casualties!
